online community and after only producing three episodes in 2011 series creator Josh Hawkins promises, "The time for a relaunch and hopefully saving this series is now or never."
foremost only three episodes were produced in 2011 - the tenth anniversary year of the series and I'm to blame for letting it fall into that place. Weekly Edge: What was a few of the things that weren't working? Hawkins: For starters April's storyline. Isolating the character of April from her family was a huge mistake that I made in 2009. I wanted to show her life outside of River's Edge but it never seemed to make sense or pan out. Weekly Edge: Do you consider then Kendra's storyline a mistake? Hawkins: Oddly I don't. With Kendra there is a clear reason (Jered's Death) that Kendra left River's Edge and it makes sense. With April it was just confusing.
Hawkins: There were and still are parts of the Andrew/Sharon/Gregory/Megan storyline that I consider both things that weren't working and things that I consider were working. With this "Now or Never" relaunch I'm going to address that storyline and shake things up for those characters. In terms of characters that weren't clicking with the audience was the Russell character and he's been written out of the series once we return. Weekly Edge: Leaving Sabrina with yet another broken engagement? Hawkins: Unfortunately yes however the storyline that I have mapped out for Sabrina is one that I think longtime readers are going to love.
how you'll continue with those key elements. Hawkins: The core cast of characters are what made AON what it is. I really looked at the canvas and figured out how to utilize each character in a storyline that fits who they are within the series. Weekly Edge: Is it fair to say that you're trying to recapture the heart and soul of AON with this relaunch?
series. To that end I wanted to focus on Pamela, Natasha, Sharon and even Brandi. Weekly Edge: Speaking of Brandi does that mean we will see more of the character? Hawkins: Yes. When I took the character off the canvas in 2010 I always knew she was coming back at some stage in the story and we've arrived at that stage. Weekly Edge: Will readers see a resurgence of new characters or former characters? Hawkins: I think we'll see a mixture of both. For instance, Patricia King makes her return in Episode 136 for a handful of episodes that will propel stories. I am really looking at bringing on new characters who will impact the twenty core characters. Any new character needs to have a reason for being on the canvas. Weekly Edge: What can readers expect to see storyline wise? Hawkins: As I have said the show got dark and off course there for awhile so I'll be steering that ship back into place as we move forward with Episode 136: A Real Fine Place to Start which I think is appropriately named. I'm looking to tell more character driven stories and not plot driven. Weekly Edge: In other areas on the website you have said this the "Now Or Never" Relaunch expand on that tag line a little bit more. Hawkins: I was first inspired by the new website that "Footprints" launched back in August 2011 and then by the real life relaunch of the TV Soap Opera "Days of our Lives." I've launched the AON in 2001 and again in 2009 - I really feel as though the third time is the charm and it has to work. Weekly Edge: Care to share a few hints & spoilers. Hawkins: Check out the "Back to the Edge Relaunch PREVIEWS" for what's to come on AON in 2012. |
